A group of scholars from the Tobin Project’s Corporation & American Democracy initiative submitted a Supreme Court brief in January, working with attorney Jonathan Massey, in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

June 2013: Sustainable National Security Strategy workshops

In May and June Jeremi Suri and Benjamin Valentino led research workshops on sustainable national security strategy in Austin, TX, Hanover, NH, and Cambridge, MA.  At the workshops authors intensively discussed revised versions of selected papers from Tobin’s December 2012 national security conference.  Authors will use the feedback to help revise their papers in preparation for publication in an edited Tobin Project volume.

June 2013: The Tobin Project Celebrates MacArthur Award

On June 4, 2013, the Tobin Project hosted a reception to celebrate the organization's 2013 MacArthur Award for Creative & Effective Institutions.  Held in Boston, the evening featured a talk from Tobin Project scholar and MIT Professor Stephen Van Evera on “Terrorism: What We Don’t Know and What We Need to Learn,” as well as remarks from founder David Moss.

May 2013: The Tobin Project Holds a Meeting on The Corporation and American Democracy

On May 21 and 22, the scholars contributing to the forthcoming Tobin Project volume on The Corporation and American Democracy met in Cambridge to share their research findings and workshop drafts.

February 2013: Graduate Student Research Fellowship & Forum Call For Applications

The Tobin Project seeks applications from doctoral students and law students undertaking work related to its initiatives in Democracy & Markets and National Security. 

The deadline for applications is March 1, 2013. 

December 2012: Conference on Sustainable Security: Smarter Strategy for a Changing World

In December, the Tobin Project convened an interdisciplinary group of over 30 top scholars, along with key policymakers, to explore how how the U.S. can sustainably pursue its national security interests when faced with a decade of costly foreign wars, a devastating global financial crisis, mounting public debt, and profound realignments in international political and economic power.
